The US Soccer Foundation’s Passback Program allows players, teams, and clubs the opportunity to donate used but usable equipment. Cleats, uniforms, and soccer balls are all accepted. Soccer Without Borders currently has projects ongoing in Nicaragua,
Zambia, and Uganda. The non-profit
organzation is based in San Francisco and works to contribute to youth
development by connecting young people with caring adults and supportive peers.
Survivor:Africa
winner Ethan Zohn, a soccer enthusiast, is co-founder of this non-profit
organization. Grassroot Soccer uses the
power of soccer in the fight against AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and seeks to
provide knowledge and life skills to young people. The organization currently works in South Africa, Zambia, and
Zimbabwe with affiliated partnerships in nine other African countries. It is funded partially by a grant from the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It
won the Nike Sports for a Better World Collaborative Competition in 2008.
Soccer in the
Streets is an Atlanta-based non-profit that develops soccer, educational, and
life skills for “at-risk” kids in urban communities. Soccer in the Streets is committed to putting a soccer ball within
reach of every less-advantaged child and changing lives through soccer. It was established in 1989.
The Play Soccer
grassroots community program aims to make the world a better place for children
and youth who master and enjoy playing soccer while learning health, physical and
social development life skills. Play Soccer
is currently established in Cameroon, Ghana, Malawi, Senegal, South Africa, and
Zambia.
