Message from the President

February 2010

Fellow Coaches:

As we enter the final part of soccer season 2009-2010, I can’t help but think about how far our sport has advanced in the last two decades.  I just finished an Executive Council meeting and have received official approval for some funding of our soccer all-star event in July.

Can you believe it?  The LHSAA and the LHSCA are now treating soccer as a full-fledged LHSAA sport.  Those of you who have followed soccer through the past 25-plus years know that it has been a long process to receive this recognition.

While we still have some work to do, I feel very confident that we now have a voice!

Now to the end-of-season business:

(1) Thank you to Sean Esker and Chad Vidrine, our two vice-presidents.  They have spent many hours communicating with you with reminders and answers.  They both really love working for you and the sport, and so do I.

(2) There is much information that must be gathered and sent to the LHSAA, including district certification reports, district records, division records, and overall records.  Each playoff qualifying team also must pay $26 to the LHSAA.  Please refer to instructions that have been sent by Sean and Chad.

(3) Coaches will rank the playoff teams in their respective divisions through the principal’s secure lhsaaonline.org website.  If you are not familiar with this process, you will need to become familiar very quickly.  Coaches’ rankings were extremely successful last year because of the diligence of our coaches.

(4) It is not too early to begin the nomination process for all-state and the other end-of-season awards.  Forms are available on this website.

(5) Academic all-state is still being certified by the LHSSCA this year.  Please send the forms from our website to Sean Esker and Chad Vidrine for girls and boys, respectively.

(6) Once again, Sean Esker will conduct the Girls’ All-State process and Doug Hamilton will conduct the Boys’ All-State process.  Nominations and questions should be directed there regarding that process.

(7) Make plans to attend the LHSSCA annual meeting to be held at Menard High School in Alexandria on March 6, 2010 at 1 pm.

(8) With all of this selection going on, please begin to consider which seniors you would like to nominate for the second annual All-Star Classic on July 10, 2010!  Nominations will be sent directly to the LHSAA this year.  See their form at lhsaa.org.  There will be some differences to the process this year, and we will attempt to keep every member coach well-informed.

(9) A final reminder – please join the LHSSCA.  You must be a member in order to nominate and vote.  Membership is slightly down from our previous high percentage, but it’s not too late to join!
